These grasses remind me of walks with my grandmother, when I was young. She would tell me how they used to use this straw to make brooms back in her day. And she’d show me how to gather it. Well, I didn’t make a broom, but I did use this straw to make a wreath to welcome our guests at Abbie’s birthday party!
This whole adventure was made possible by my generous father-in-law {thanks!} He’d given me some fishing line for a previous project. It literally ended up pulling this whole project together! I just grabbed a handful of dry straw, bent and cracked it into a curve, and looped the fishing line around it – connecting it to the metal circle I had {left over from our Christmas wreath – also thanks to my in-laws!}.
Here you can see that I looped the fishing line around about every inch or so.
I’m excited to dress this straw wreath up differently for each season, time and time again. {And yes, those are blonde bobbie pins holding the butterflies on!}
